Meet Joe Nyahay

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joe Nyahay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Joe, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

From a very young age, I always had a thirst for success and to strive for excellence.  I sought out any opportunity that would allow me to advance my career and fuel my motivation.  I learned to appreciate and understand the importance of outshining the competition, focusing on tasks that would aid in achieving both short-term and long-term goals.  During my corporate tenure, I was dedicated to being the first employee in the office for the day and the last one to leave at night, exhibiting my unwavering commitment to both my role and the organization.  Beyond the traditional “nine to five,” I always maintained outside projects even during my primary school and college years.  Settling for “average” was not an option; I always had a passion to go above and beyond.  I discovered that immersing myself in endeavors and business-like hobbies helped push me to excel in all pursuits.

At the age of fourteen, I embarked on my culinary journey where I served as a short-order cook at a local poolside eatery.  I learned to adapt to the fast-paced environment, which was a valuable skillset that would later translate to my career today.  I quickly was promoted from “Chef” to “Head Line Chef” during my early working years due to my tenacity and later assumed the role of Assistant Sous Chef before I turned eighteen.  My passion for culinary arts drove me to spend countless late nights engrossed in “Iron Chef,” learning and re-learning new recipes, various techniques, and different presentation styles.  I even created a designated notebook to ensure that everything was documented for reference.  My desire to excel in every endeavor I undertake remains steadfast.  Regardless of the roles, duties, responsibilities, I was determined to learn and bring those new learned techniques into the kitchen. These experiences have shaped me into the evolving entrepreneur I am today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Upon graduating from Penn State, I earned a degree in mechanical engineering where I concentrated on product development and 3D modeling.  I have an accelerated mindset as an analytical thinker which complemented this career choice.  With the ability to convincingly present ideas, articulate concepts and cost-saving opportunities, and ignite team enthusiasm, I quickly advanced the corporate ladder…until fate steered me in a new direction.

About three years ago, my now-wife and I relocated from Philadelphia to Dallas where we were surrounded by a community of like-minded people – much of whom were business owners.  We quickly learned the City of Dallas is known for its youthful entrepreneurship and it truly felt like the ideal place to make our dreams a reality.  My personal goal was to kickstart a fresh venture, broaden my professional network, and ultimately leave the corporate world.

In June 2021, I connected with business men and women and honed my networking skills.  Working as a Director of Marketing for a medical device startup company, I started to see the growth in new business and investment prospects in Dallas.  Of course, I jumped on this opportunity and teamed up with a friend to launch a thriving marketing agency.  In the interim, I was forced to find a new corporate opportunity in the medical device industry when I discovered unethical practices that did not align with my character.

Life in Dallas was fantastic.  I was newly engaged to my now-wife & actively involved in wedding planning.  I was financially stable, confident, and carefree…until there was an unexpected turn of events.  My former employer in Dallas reacted negatively to me securing new employment in the same industry, filing a lawsuit against the new company and me, individually, seeking damages up to $1 million.  Shocked and bewildered, this felt like a vindictive attempt to drain me both emotionally and financially.  Despite my good-faith effort to resolve this dispute amicably, the legal battle ultimately led to my departure from corporate – just mere months before the wedding.  Experiencing unemployment for the very first time, I was forced to make a tough decision that would not just affect me, but now my future family.  With no viable options but focusing on recovering lost income, I was faced with several challenges and hurdles. The Q3 and Q4 market conditions made acquiring new clients more difficult than usual, testing my confidence, patience, and resilience.  However, I devoted every waking moment to attending networking events and pursuing personal growth.

Drawing inspiration from motivational speakers like my all-time favorite Les Brown, I remained laser-focused on my objective – to curate and scale business in a down market.  I rebranded my business as LFG Business Group embodying my perseverance and commitment. People started to resonate with my business, my mission, and my approach, which later confirmed that rebranding was the best decision for my future career and me.

I work to elevate businesses’ marketing strategies in the ever-evolving landscape. Serving as a Fractional CMO, I guide small businesses to define their target audience, cultivate robust brands, and enhance conversions.

I aid businesses in navigating the dynamic marketing realm by advocating and prioritizing strategy over tactics. Through a complimentary 30-minute consultation, I delve into their narrative, customer acquisition strategies, and growth blueprints to redefine marketing approaches effectively.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Trust.  Resilience.  Perseverance.

In my leisure, I enjoy reading books on business growth, sales tactics, life coaching, and self-improvement to strengthen my mindset to confront any challenge life throws at you.  Regardless of any setbacks, I have learned the importance and power of positive affirmations such as “YOU CAN DO THIS.”

Three pivotal lessons that have resonated with me:

(1) Trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair;

(2) No matter how hard life knocks you down, recognize that we’re placed on this earth each for a dedicated reason. Let your reasons get you back up.

(3) Asking myself the following: Am I willing to do anything other than move forward each year, month, day in my life without improvement toward reaching my goals?  Every day I am a better version of who I was yesterday and I refuse to let my mind beat myself up that I am not worthy of ultimate success.
